William Jeanes Memorial Library
The William Jeanes Memorial Library, Nicholas & Athena Karabots Center for Learning serves the community with a collection of over 51,000 books and audio-visual items and more than 125 magazine and newspaper subscriptions.
Book Lending & Services
The library provides books for pleasure and educational reading, videos, large print books and unabridged books on tape and compact disc. The Adult Services department provides information services for individuals, businesses and students at the Library or via telephone as well as day and evening programs such as book talks, AARP driving courses and Internet classes. Free Internet access is available on four computers in the main reading room and one in the children's area.
The Children's Department has fiction and non-fiction for school assignments and leisure reading and picture books for younger children. Educational computer games are available for use on the Library's computer. Bedtime stories, storytimes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, summer reading programs, book writing contests and entertainment and instructional programs for children and their families are offered.
The Friends of the William Jeanes Library group was established in 1950. Since that time the organization has been a vital force in supplementing Library funding. Donations received through the annual membership drive and proceeds generated by used book sales have enabled the Friends to support Library services in many ways. We have augmented the purchase of new technology, books, and other media, sponsored adult and children’s programs, contributed as a major donor to the recent building renovation and expansion, and responded to special funding requests as they continue to arise.
